The journal Acta Asiatica Varsoviensia was started in the year 1988 by professor Roman Sławiński, associated with the Centre for Studies on Non-European Countries (in 2010 transformed into the Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures). Initially the journal was published in Polish language. Since the year 2000 the journal was issued in English language, accepting also articles in German and French. The first issue of the journal published entirely in English was the thirteenth volume.
